One-to-one Counselling

What I do #01

One to one counselling offers you an opportunity to be listened to. I aim to provide a space within which you will feel comfortable enough to talk about anything and to be yourself as you really are. There will be no negative judgement.

People benefit by being able to understand themselves and their often self-destructive behaviours. This leads to increasing their self awareness which, in turn, enables them to be gentler and kinder to themselves, rather than being punished by that inner critical voice that can be so vicious and destructive.

There are many different ways that we can work together. For example, some people like to explore their creative imagination by understanding and learning from their dreams. Others are drawn to artwork, using pencils, paint and clay. Some enjoy working with the sandtray (see below). Mostly, however, people just want and need to talk.

Working with the Sand Tray

What I do #02

Sometimes when people don't want to talk or are frustrated by not being able to explain or know where they are or what's going on, using the sand tray with the little images that you can see in the picture.

Relationship Counselling/IMAGO Therapy

What I do #03

Relationships and how we relate shows us who we really are and why. It tells us all about ourselves and our personal history.

I facilitate communication, helping people to focus on listening and really hearing what is being said by the other person, without mentally preparing their next response. With practice, this enables them to communicate freely and easily. One of the ways in which I work with my clients is to use Imago Relationship Therapy. I have been an accredited Imago Relationship Therapist for some years now and am very impressed with how well and how quickly it works. It is a very practical, down-to-earth approach to providing couples with a comprehensive tool kit of skills to make them independent of their therapist as soon as possible. If necessary they return for 'top-ups'.

Imago Relationship theory helps to clarify why we are attracted to certain people and explores a deeper understanding of the nature of conflict. It offers insights on how people can create fulfilling and deeply satisfying relationships. People who have experienced IMAGO Theory through counselling frequently say that IMAGO ‘just makes sense’. It also offers more: a sense of possibility. IMAGO Therapy offers a way to not only deepen loving, intimate relationships, but also improve all our interactions with people.
